Analysis, Design and Verification

WE ANALYSE, DESIGN AND VERIFY

We have experience in foundation and earth structure analysis, design and verification of residential and commercial buildings; bridge piers and abutments; light post / mast; communication tower; noise wall; retaining wall; jetty & boat ramp; water and sewer pipeline, pressure main and gravity main, its trench and horizontal drilling.

We use the updated software packages and in-house spread sheets for analysis, design and verification of ground engineering structures as listed below:

  • Shallow foundation – pad footing, strip footing and mat / raft foundation.
  • Deep / Pile foundation (AS 2159) – mono bored pile, driven pile, group piles, raking pile, steel cased bored pile, screw pile.
  • Earth structure – earth embankment, river bank / levee.
  • Retaining structure – gravity and reinforced concrete retaining walls; sheet pile walls; soldier piles or contiguous piles for basements and other temporary or permanent excavations.
  • Ground improvement analysis and modelling.
  • Platform for construction rigs and plants.

Due Diligence Study / Opportunities and Constraints Study / Desktop Study

WE EMPHASIS ON UNEXPECTED GROUND CONDITIONS WHICH CAN LEAD TO A SIGNIFICANT COST AND SCHEDULE IMPACT

It is a pre-tender geotechnical and environmental site assessment study to understand if unexpected ground conditions exist at the site which can lead to a significant cost and project schedule impact.

Generally, we undertake a desktop study combined with a site walkover and minimal intrusive investigation for the assessment of its existing conditions. This preliminary level geotechnical and environmental study is an inexpensive way of identifying important information / potential issues on a site you are considering purchasing or developing.

The due‐diligence study supplements the work to be undertaken at the detailed investigation stage.

Ground Improvement / Soil Stabilisation

WE STABILISE AND IMPROVE WEAK AND POOR GROUND TO MITIGATE STRUCTURAL MAINTENANCE

Ground improvement is necessary to mitigate the associated serviceability risks of a structural failure, or excessive long term post-construction settlements. The techniques improve the strength and stiffness conditions of poor, soft, loose or unstable ground by altering its properties.

Example techniques we design and implement based on project’s merits: deep densification, preloading/ surcharging, prefabricated vertical drains/vertical strip drains/ wick drains, stone columns, controlled modulus columns (CMC), lime and cement stabilisation.

We model the site and ground improvement scenarios based on site investigation data and estimate various stage parameters, strength and stiffness, settlement and duration.

Dewatering Management Plan, Design and Supervision

WE CAN HELP PROVIDING A DRY WORKING CONDITIONS

We plan, design, supervise construction and operation of dewatering system for excavations below groundwater level for structures and its foundation system.

For most granular soil (sand, gravel, and gravelly sand) the groundwater table during construction should be maintained at least 1 m below the slopes and bottom of an excavation in order to ensure ‘dry working conditions’. It may need to be maintained lower depths for cohesive soils (clay, silts, around 2 to 3 m below bottom of excavation).

We consider the following groundwater control methods:

  1. Interception and removal of groundwater from the site by pumping from sumps, wells, wellpoints, or drains.
  2. Reduction of artesian pressure beneath the bottom of an excavation.
  3. Isolation of the excavation from the inflow of groundwater by a sheet pile cut off, grout curtain, slurry cut off wall.

After understanding the requirements for groundwater control, we select preferred method, estimate total flowrate, assess total time for target drawdown, assess the settlement risk and then undertake detailed dewatering system design and management plan.

We support onsite dewatering plan implementation and monitoring.
